Powerline Networking

I haven’t had a real reason to investigate this intriguing networking option until last week. I’ve been suffering with a spotty wireless connection from my upstairs office PC to the access point in the basement, so I’m looking into cheap and easy solutions for getting something reliable hooked up.

I spent nearly an hour in Frys reading the boxes on all of the available powerline products, from Linksys, Airlan and Netgear. There are alot of choices, with speeds ranging from 14Mbps to 200Mbps. And prices from $29 to $150. I’ll be working on product reviews detailing what I find in this category.

Today I tried out the Netgear Powerline HD Network Adapter Kit, but I will be returning it. You can find my article in product reviews.

This week I’ll be trying out the NETGEAR RangeMax WNDR3300 Dual Band Wireless-N Router. It promises interference free wireless networking – we shall see.
